The Heritage Education Programme
CCFU is piloting a Heritage Education Programme to promote the recognition of the importance of heritage for Uganda’s development. The programme, which runs throughout 2011, is implemented in partnership with 3 community museums namely the Cultural Assets Centre of URDT in Kibaale, the Cultural Research Centre in Jinja and the Home of Edirisa in Kabale.
Why a heritage education programme?
Though rich in both tangible and intangible heritage, Uganda is a country where the significance of this wealth is not widely recognised and therefore not appreciated by many.
Schools lack heritage education and outreach programmes in communities that promote cultural heritage are non existent. Ugandans’ understanding and pride in aspects of their cultural heritage is therefore limited.
The heritage education programme is one way of helping Ugandans to raise their consciousness on the value of cultural heritage, not only as a potential source of revenue but also as an important and intrinsic element of our history and identity. We engage young people so that they are committed to preserving their cultural heritage and ensure its sustainability.
Who is it for?
The programme benefits secondary school teachers and students, community museum managers and the entire communities near the community museums involved.
Please check our Heritage Education Programme brochure for more information on this programme.
